1936 Morocco Agencies - 1936 registered air mail cover to London from Fez, with a pair of 1 Franc on 10d cancelled REGISTERED BRITISH POST OFFICE FEZ 21 NO 36 and a 1/- cancelled REGISTERED BRITISH P.O. TANGIER 22 NOV 36. The cover had to have the French stamps to pay the registration fee, but as the prepayment of  the 1/-  airmail was not accepted in the French zone, which required payment in Francs as well, the cover had to be routed via Tangier, where the 1/- was cancelled a day later. An interesting and unusual cover.  1936 Morocco Agencies

1945 Falkland Islands - 1945 Operation Tabarin cover addressed to the Falkland Islands, with a pair of Dependencies ds cancelled SOUTH ORKNEYS 12 FEB 1945.  A Port Stanley 16 FEB 45 arrival c.d.s. is on the back. This was sent on the 2nd visit to South Orkney, the first being a year earlier. Prior to the start of the WWII German aircraft had dropped markers with swastikas across Queen Maud Land in an attempt to create a territorial claim. Operation Tabarin was a military undertaking by the Admiralty and the Colonial Office in 1943 to establish a permanent British presence in the Antarctic. These bases were the first ever to be constructed in Antarctica.  1945 Falkland Islands

Operation Tabarin was a military undertaking by the Admiralty and the Colonial Office in 1943 to establish a permanent British presence in the Antarctic. These bases were the first ever to be constructed in Antarctica. A base was established during February near the abandoned Norwegian whaling station on Deception Island. A Livingstone 7 JAN 1909 transit and Pontarlier 31. 1. 10. arrival cancels are on the back. The Paris Evangelical Mission Station had been opened at Lealui in Barotseland by Francois Coillard in 1892, and virtually all the mail from Lealui emanated from that Mission Station.   1909 Rhodesia
