1851 8th FRONTIER WAR. A folded letter to Stratford on Avon from the Lieutenant Atty correspondence, dated on the front 20 Sep 1851. A GENERAL POST OFFICE CAPE TOWN cachet is on the front of the letter along with m/s ‘8’ and 1/- At the lower left there is a handwritten ‘From Lieut. Atty, Queens, Paid. Lt Atty was in the Queens Own Regiment and was involved in the War that started when Col. MacKinnon was ambushed by Xhosa at Boompah Pass in the Eastern Cape in December 1850 that was followed by the siege of Fort Cox on 25th December. The war lasted two years before Sandile and other Xhosa chiefs surrendered in February 1853. A fine letter from this campaign.
