1856 cover to Calcutta, India, with the original letter, with a MAURITIUS SEP 7 1855 dispatch cancel on the front. The letter was returned and on the back is a boxed CALCUTTA SHIP LETTER h/s. A manuscript ‘Not Found, Return to Mauritius’ is written on the right side of the cover. A MAURITIUS DE 24 1856 arrival datestamp is on the front of the cover. The cover has been repaired with tape (that needs professionally removing) A most interesting item, only getting back to the sender 15 months after it was initially posted.
