S S FINANCE 1908. The American Steamer Finance collided with the Steamer Georgic in dense fog off Sandy Hook, New York, on November 26 1908 and sank with the loss of 3 lives. Recovered mail was returned to New York and an explanatory label attached. This cover from Germany to Chile only arrived at its’ destination, Iquique, on 13 July 1909 – a very long 7½ month delay. A very uncommon destination for mail from this incident, the majority was going to Central America.
