1928 Ocean Letter envelope sent registered to Maritzburg with a triangular 4d and a 1d tied by a violet oval SHIPPING POSTMASTER ‘3’ CAPE TOWN 9 JUL 1928 cancel. (Dovey 11, Type 8) A clerk would go on board an arriving ship to facilitate a service to passengers who were on route to further destinations. They only accepted registered mail, cables and telegrams. These items were cancelled with the Shipping Postmaster cancels. A scare cover. Fine.
