1930 ALHAMBRA CA. On December 22, the Western Air Express flight from Salt Lake City to San Diego, via Los Angeles, developed engine trouble and crashed on landing at Alhambra. Recovered mail had a two line cachet , mainly in magenta, ‘DAMAGED BY AIR PLANE WRECK / DECEMBER 22, 1930. This cover has three strikes of the cachet in a very deep (nearly black) violet. Unusual.
