1900 cover to a member of the 32nd Cornwalls Light Infantry at Lucknow, India, endorsed at the top ‘On Field Service – No Stamps’ and signed by Lieutenant Buck of the 2nd Kings Royal Rifles, but with a 1d cancelled LADYSMITH MR 7 1900 (exactly a week after the relief of Ladysmith when stamps had become available by then) The cover has been endorsed at the lower left ‘Ladysmith Feb 21st, which indicates that the cover was written and posting was attempted during the siege. On arrival the cover was forwarded to Barrackpore. There are a number of transit and arrival cancels on the back. The 2nd Kings Royal Rifles had been despatched from India early in the War. An interesting cover.
