CHINA – 2nd OPIUM WAR. 1858 cover from Seaman Edmund Norton to Birmingham that has been signed by the commanding officer for Norton to get the 1d concession rate and dated 12/4/58. London and Birmingham June 3 1858 transit and arrival cancels are on the back. The cover has a 1d red that was tied by a barred ‘40’ cancel on arrival in London. The cruiser Camilla was stationed in China during the 2nd Opium War. She was lost with all crew off Japan in September 1860 probably due to a hurricane
