1880 MERIDEN, CT. A cover from Saccarappa, Maine, to New York that, due to a washout, was in a train accident near Meriden, CT. on April 6 1880 where the mail landed up in a swamp and became saturated with water and oil. A full explanatory note has been attached to the back. This is the only recorded item from this incident. A very rare and most appealing cover.
