SOUTHAMPTON. 1984 singed cover, that has had the address label washed off when extinguishing the fire, posted in Battersea 2 APR 1984. A label has been attached stating the cover has been accidentally damaged in the post and with a SOUTHAMPTON 10 APR 84 datestamp. An explanatory letter was sent with the mail, saying the letter was damaged by a fire on a train at Southampton Station on 4 April. Subsequent investigations put the fire down to arson. A scarce cover from this incident.
